AWG’s coaxial RF Power Divider are widely used in many applications such as telemetry, military installations and commercial test systems. Power dividers are used to distribute power to two more output ports. They can also be used to combine power from different ports into one ports.

We have different power dividers to handle different frequencies. The lowest frequency is in the HF-Band (2-30MHz) and the highest frequency is up to Ka-band (40GHz).

Wideband power dividers like 1-18 GHz 2-way power dividers and 6-18 GHz 4-way power dividers are widely used in radar applications.

 LC Power Dividers – Power Dividers under 1000 MHz

Power dividers that operate below 1 GHz can be designed using either LC (inductor and capacitor) or using transformer.

The features of LC power dividers are as follows:

  • small and compact in size compared to microstrip power dividers
  • 2-way / 3-way/ 4-way / 6-way/ 12-way / 16-way / 32-way power dividers
  • wide – band covering several octaves
  • frequency range of power dividers include HF-band (2-30 MHz), VHF-Band (30-300MHz)  and partial UHF-Band (300-1000 MHz)

As an example, APS-2W-10M-1000M-01 is a wide-band 2-way power divider that can be used from 10 MHz to 1 GHz. It has an insertion loss of 0.5 dB (above the theoretical 3-dB loss) and a typical isolation of 23 dB between output ports. It has a phase unbalance of 3 degrees and amplitude unbalance of 0.2 dB across the operating frequency range. The maximum RF power that the power divider can handle is 1 W. The connector is SMA-female. Other connector types like BNC or N-type are available upon request.

Microstrip VHF-Band & UHF-Band Power Dividers (100 – 3000 MHz)

The advantage that microstrip power dividers have over LC power dividers is that microstrip power dividers can handle higher input power. However, microstrip power dividers are occupy larger estates and therefore are larger in size. Most microstrip power dividers are also known as Wilkinson power dividers.

VHF- Band (100 – 300 MHz) and UHF band (300 – 3000MHz) micostrip power dividers are widely used in many radio telemetry systems and in the license-free 2.4GHz radio systems. These typically operate from 698 – 2700 MHz.

APS-2W-400M-500M-01 is a 2 way power divider operating in the UHF band of 400MHz to 500MHz. Designed for use in trunk radio systems and walkie-talkie radio, the power divider can handle an input power of 10W when operating as a power divider and it can handle an input power of 1W when used as a power combiner. Port to port isolation is 20dB min.

Microwave Coaxial Power Dividers – L-band, C-Band, X-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-Band (2000 MHz – 40 GHz)

Our microwave coaxial power dividers are constructed using microstrip technology and manufactured using low-loss microwave substrate. The design toplogy is primarily a Wilkinson power divider design.

 

Standard Wilkinson power splitters are typically narrowband with operating frequencies of less than 1 octave. For example, a typically narrowband 2.45 GHz power divider may be optimzed for operation from 2300 MHz to 2500 MHz. The advantage of a narrowband power splitter over a wideband power splitter is that they typically feature higher isolation.

 

Multi-stage Wilskinson power dividers are used to acheive wideband power dividers that are able to operate in several octaves. This allows the power splitters to operate in frequency ranges like 1-18GHz, 2-18 GHz, 6-18GHz, 12-26.5GHz and even 18GHz to 40 GHz.

Wideband power splitters are useful for power splitting and combining applications for instrumentation and also for lab use. It is designed to achieve low amplitude ripple, high return loss and high isolation over the whole frequency range in addition to low insertion loss. It is very useful for wide band inter-modulation measurements which require multiple combinations of tones fed to a device under test as they cover a wide frequency range. They are popularly used to cover applications such as: fixed satellite, line of light links, Cellular and WCDMA

Cavity Power Splitters/Combiner for CDMA, WCDMA, GSM, DCS, PCS and LTE.

Power splitters for CDMA 850, GSM 900, DCS 1800, PCS 1900, WCDMA 2100, LTE 2600MHz have different requirements compared to the standard power dividers. 

Since these components need to handle high RF power levels, and are usually used to combine modulated signals from different sources, they need to have low PIM (Passive Intermodulation Products). Therefore, these power dividers are constructed using cavity and they can handle power levels as high as 150W. The connectors used are N-type connectors.
